I am developing my writing strategy over time. This first semester of English was merely a learning experience for me. I am going to elaborate on my experience of writing my life and specifically first college English class and the importance of receiving feedback from my peers regarding my papers. Also, I am going to reflect on what I’ve learned about my writing style and how I plan to use it to challenge myself in the future. I have concluded that there are still many things that I need to work on, but as the semester progressed there have been signs of improvement.
The writing assignment in Pakistan, where I spent 16 years of my life, concerns the lines in primary school, regardless of what your strategy is. I recall, for example, when my Urdu teacher taught me to write an essay, how he told me to compose the maximum amount possible. Do not repeat any words and get a good introduction and a meaningful conclusion. If they won’t read the entire essay, they will see how much you wrote and whether or not you repeat your words. So in terms of education, they did not teach us to be a good writer. In order to write, they asked me a question with a short edition, and it was not a matter of yes or no, it was a matter of clarifying the issue without taking sides, because they had already decided it for you. The challenge was your capacity not to write creatively than write a lot. So it was a matter of the length of your papers.
It was a huge step forward when I first came to the USA, especially to learn and understand the language. The Urdu is from right to left, but English is from left to right because of the different alphabets and language. So I’ve been getting used to it for a while. When I reached the school I wrote a certain essay, and I could identify it by saying that your teacher assigned you to be prepared to evaluate and offer you the appropriate level of knowledge for the content of your class. It’s more than that, though. The teacher wants you to think about something for a specific purpose. It could be a bad thing because it kills your creativity, however, it makes you think in a certain way. The high school assignments were therefore about whether or not you want to see the different sides. Yet high schooling taught me how to better connect my thoughts because I had several ideas, yet I understood how to do an essay. One summary, three paragraphs of the body and one conclusion, the way I came to my jobs.
I’ve studied some things in my English classes this semester in college. I studied through writing methods, MLA formats, and how different sources can be found and used properly. I was able to learn these skills through learning activities and the writing of the various papers. While I’ve learned various things, I still need improvements when it comes to writing. Skills such as grammar and MLA needs to be changed. Although I had plenty to do with this semester, my writing skills could still be strengthened in certain ways.
Before I started this semester, I never knew that I had to think about certain audiences and goals for every essay I needed to write. This course helped to achieve this goal and to ensure that the audiences I write were always considered for each subject. It was important to make sure that I was still focusing on a certain audience in my essays that I wrote this semester. The challenge for me was to make use of genre-appropriate language, mechanics, and conventions. I had to ensure that the language used for each paper met the requirements, but the message was still interpreted in the right contexts. There were various kinds of essays I had to write and use for them the correct language and mechanics.
One of the most valuable things I learned in this English semester was that reading my peer reviews in my rough paper, which help me to locate my paper, and with my second and third eyes to study my paper the mistakes in the paper have been reduced. by having my peers to test a copy of my paper, they noticed things I did not see when I was. In each of my papers, I identify and apply the correct writing methods, both individually and in collaboration. At least two people reviewed each of my papers during class for correction and improvement in my essays. Not only was it very useful to have analyzed my thesis, but also to be able to examine other people. It helps me improve my writing skills and techniques and helps me to get better grades. I would also visit the writing center to get help with my training and my writing skills. Usually, I didn’t make any big changes to the papers when I was in high school. I have, however, come to know how critical it is that when looking at the first draft, I consider peer reviews and your feedback. I have found that the first draft should be carefully reviewed or reworked by reviewing and understanding the difficulties described in the remarks. The comments from peers helped me to maintain my paper on the subject or indicated where further information is needed. I have thought of these issues how the paper will relate all of the ideas to the thesis. I will want to see why they are doing what they are doing and whether it is to be improved or not. It would usually have to be changed and why it was updated in the analysis memo allowed me to change the situation.
A large part of both these essays was critical thinking. The main problem I faced in writing both essays is how I could include specifics of the topic while coherently presenting my own opinions, arguments, and perspectives. I had to concentrate on where I would use what details and what I would say while I was both educated and informed. Both of these papers tested each of my analytical abilities and argumentative skills. This course has taught me how to develop these skills concerning my critical thinking skills. While these skills are a work in progress, I have come to evaluate a discussion with several possibilities, to build a case with several points, and to understand how to clearly say what I need. Academically, these skills will strengthen my entire writing and allow me to be a rich writer.
I was also inspired by my success in this class to become a better overall student. In my learning how to be a successful college student, this class has played a huge role. The teachers have guided us through everything since high school, and we never seem to have done it alone. This class was very different from any high school English class I’ve ever been a member of. It was something really special to get the feeling of having a class twice a week that this took me some time to adjust. Also, we were given a lot of autonomy by this class structure about how we wanted to do things. Confesses before submitting the final draft was also very helpful as Professor Swett points out things that can be changed and how we can make it better, with that he also gives us other option to improve our final draft. In a college environment, I feel like learning how to succeed is something that will be very important to my continued success as a college student. Qualities such as self-motivation and a truly dedicated work ethic are things improved as a result of being part of this class. In the future, these qualities will be extremely important to me, as I have in mind a range of academic goals that I want to achieve before my college career is over.
In conclusion, this semester has taught me a lot about the way I’m writing. I’ve progressed from the time I entered college until now, Before I thought I knew everything I needed to know to write a college-level paper. I quickly learned that I made several mistakes before I came to college that I didn’t notice. I took the information I gained from my first paper to correct my mistakes and make sure that in my next essay I didn’t repeat the same mistakes. Now that I have the experience I need to write at a higher level, it will make sure I do well throughout my college career in the majority of my essays. This class supported me to develop my skills in writing. I know that not only during my time at university but all the rest of my life I can use these skills. I would know say that i am a decent writer, but not a terrific one I am not going to lie, the course assignments were hard for me because I am from a different country that uses different language for writing, also have work, so managing time was hard, so I needed help along with the semester. Professor Swett understood those Circumstances and he was so helpful by giving me good feedback, extending some deadlines, and giving me some inspiration to keep it up. I’ll always need a little extra help but now I know there are resources like the Writing Center to help me. I think I will approach future writing assignments with an open mind and hope that I will take some pressure from the task.
